Lucinda used to only be allowed out on one night a year, the one where all the children swarmed the streets in their different costumes. She would wriggle loose, sneak out from where she hid, and use the frightening displays, and odd dress up game everyone played to her advantage. At first that one night was enough to satisfy her. She would wind through the streets, scaring children, opening up her sternum to show them her technicolor guts. The fear scent... it was so delicious. 

It's what kept her going. But after years, and years, this sustained Lucinda less and less. What if she stayed out until the sun rose and the next day started and everyone washed away the face paint?

Lucinda answered that what if, and found, that on every other day of the year she was even more frightening. Of course there was a bigger risk of being caught, but when men crossed her path with metal guns, and hot bullets she scooped them up in an impossibly big hand, and rolled them small and tiny and finite until they were a spec of glitter. Glitter she used to decorate her heart. Her intestines. Her rib cage. She just loved the stuff.
